Community developers are writing their own custom firmware, also called alternative firmware, for the Digitone. This is a selection, not every fork or experiment: we list the projects with a working build and a real following, and check them every day. FW Radar doesn’t host these files and doesn’t send alerts for their versions: each link opens the developer’s page.
Elektron doesn’t support these modifications.

A mod loader: you tick .elemod mods and supply the OS file Elektron publishes, and it builds a custom OS on your own computer (in the browser, or as a Windows or macOS app). On the Digitone it supports OS 1.43 and 1.44 and adds a Mod Menu (hold a track key) where the installed mods appear.
Not supported by Elektron. A custom OS can crash or lose data and may affect the warranty. The bootloader is untouched: FUNC at power-on restores the stock OS. Back up first.
A master effects suite: ring modulator, shelving EQ, lo-fi crunch, wavefolder, modulation effects, a delay and granular module, four one-knob macro pages and a PERFORM page of momentary pads.
Not supported by Elektron. Flash at your own risk: back up projects and keep the stock OS file for recovery.
An effects engine for the two audio inputs: eleven grain, loop and delay engines with four variations each, a 60-second looper, a filter and a reverb, in time with the tempo. While it runs, the synth voices are silent.
Not supported by Elektron. A beta tested on one Digitone by its author, not yet on a Digitone Keys. Back up first; FUNC at power-on and the stock OS restore the unit.
M8-style pitch tables: up to 16 steps of note offsets with a loop point, so one trig plays an arpeggio, a trill, a riff or a strummed chord, from slow steps to 1500 a second.
Not supported by Elektron. Tested on a Digitone with OS 1.43; on OS 1.44 only in an emulator. Back up first and keep the stock OS.
Six extra filter types per voice (BP, BP2, COMB, TRASH and two OB-style modes) that use the voice's own FREQ, RESO and filter envelope. Current builds need OS 1.44.
Not supported by Elektron. Several COMB or TRASH filters load the CPU, especially on poly tracks. Back up first and keep the stock OS.
On the Digitone it adds SYSTEM INFO, a CPU, DSP and memory readout in the top bar, useful when stacking heavy mods. The FAST AUDIO part is Digitakt only for now.

It’s written by independent developers, not by Elektron. Some projects are stable, others are early betas: read each developer’s notes before you flash.
Can I go back to the official firmware?
Yes: load the official 1.44 with Elektron Transfer, as described in the official update guide.
Why isn’t every Digitone project listed?
We pick the ones worth trying: a build you can install and a real following, from GitHub stars and downloads or from the community. Forks that only rename a project or add a few presets stay out, and brand-new projects get a second look after their first week.
Does FW Radar track custom firmware versions?
We note the latest version each developer has published when we check the list, every day, but we don’t send alerts for it: alerts are only for official Elektron firmware.
