How to update the Dave Smith Instruments Evolver

Check the installed versions first: hold Row 1 and press Row 2 for the Main OS, Row 3 for the DSP OS. Download the Evolver OS zip from the Sequential Evolver Operating System page and unzip it. There are two DSP files: one for serial numbers up to 1607 and one for 1608 and above (the file names say which). Send the right DSP .syx file to the Evolver over USB or a MIDI interface with a SysEx utility (SysEx Librarian on Mac, MIDI-OX on Windows) or a DAW. The display counts down from 59 during the transfer, then from 10 while it writes: do not power off during the second countdown. Older Evolvers whose Main OS is not yet the current generation also need the Evolver Upgrade kit (a replacement Main processor): update the DSP first, then fit the new chip, as described on the Sequential page.
