Check the installed software and firmware: press Setup and open the Software tab.
If you want a copy of your Sets on your computer, pair Push with Live (Push label in Places in Live's browser), open the Set and save it locally with Save Live Set. The USB recovery method deletes all data on Push.

Connect the power supply before you start the update.
When the Software tab shows an asterisk, press the Update display button. A progress bar shows the installation, and Push restarts on its own when it is done.

How to update the Ableton Push 3 Standalone
Standalone mode: connect Push 3 to Wi-Fi, open the Setup menu and go to the Software tab (an asterisk marks an available update), then press Update. Keep the power supply connected during the update. Push restarts when the installation is complete. Controller mode: connect Push 3 via USB to a computer running the latest Ableton Live; Live prompts you to update the firmware when needed.

- Two new parameters have been added to the Preferences tab of the Setup menu: Play Modifier and Recording. When Play Modifier is set to Off, the Play button triggers playback on press and no longer acts as a modifier for Follow Actions. When Recording is set to Selected Track, pressing Record starts recording only on the selected track rather than on all armed tracks.

MIDI Mapping
It is now possible to create custom MIDI mappings for parameters that support automation as well as transport controls directly on Push.
To add custom mappings, open the MIDI tab in the Setup menu, then press the leftmost upper display button. This will switch from the Settings page to the Mapping page. Then, press the Add Mapping upper display button to enter MIDI Mapping mode. On Push, touch an encoder or press a button for the parameter you want to map, then on your MIDI controller interact with the control you want to map the parameter to. Finally, press the Save button to save the assignment and exit MIDI Mapping mode.
Certain buttons can be pressed multiple times to access different mappings, such as the Play button, the Volume and Tempo encoders, and the Scene Launch buttons. A visual indication is shown on the display for controls that have more than one possible mapping target.
You can also map the following parameters that do not support automation:
- Device activation, through using the Mute and device activator buttons simultaneously.
- The loop position, loop length, and start offset for MIDI and audio clips.
- Loop on/off for MIDI clips.
- The Gain and Pitch controls for audio clips.
- Track selection.
- Device selection.
- Track muting and soloing.
The Mapping page shows all existing mappings along with the associated MIDI CC numbers and minimum and maximum values. Use the Delete Map upper display button to remove a selected mapping.
As a part of this feature, the Control Surface menu from Live's MIDI Settings is now accessible on Push as well. Push automatically recognizes a wide range of MIDI controllers and the Control Surface menu allows you to choose which control scripts are recognized automatically. You can also set the takeover mode directly from Push.
Use the new Control Scripts page in the MIDI menu to enable or disable control surfaces and configure their MIDI inputs and outputs.

Push 3 stuck booting with flashing pads after an update
Push keeps a backup of the previous software. Turn Push off, turn it on again, and once the pads start blinking wait 5 seconds, then hold the power button until Push switches off. Turn it on again: Push starts from the backup software and shows "Push was unable to start and switched to a backup version."
Push 3 standalone will not boot at all
Use recovery via Wi-Fi first: with the power supply connected, hold User and press Power, choose Start Push in Recovery Mode, then upload the latest Push Update .swu file from the Download Archive at push.local/update. This keeps your data, but only works if Push was previously updated over Wi-Fi.
Push 3 Wi-Fi recovery does not work
Use the USB recovery image: write the latest Push Recovery Image to a USB-A flash drive of at least 8 GB with BalenaEtcher, plug it into the USB-A port on Push, hold User and press Power, and choose Start Push in Recovery Mode. It takes up to 15 minutes and deletes all data on Push's internal drive. If it fails, repeat it with the flash drive connected through a USB hub.
The automatic update failed
Install the software manually: download the latest Push 3 package from the Download Archive and upload the .SWU file at push.local/update. After a manual install, Push keeps offering future automatic updates.
No Upgrade button for Live 12 on Push 3
Update Push to the latest available software first from Setup > Software, then press Upgrade and authorize Push with your Live 12 license.
