How to update the RME Fireface 400

Install the RME FireWire driver for your OS from rme-audio.de/downloads.html, then download the Flash Update Tool for Fireface 400 (Mac: fut_mac_fire_x86.zip, macOS up to 10.14; Windows: fut_win_fire_400.zip). Connect the Fireface 400 via FireWire and start the tool: it shows the current firmware revision and whether an update is needed. Click Update and wait until the progress bar finishes (Verify Ok). If several units are connected, switch to the next tab and repeat. Then power the unit off for a few seconds so it loads the new firmware; the computer does not need a reboot. If the update fails, the unit keeps working from its backup BIOS (Secure BIOS Technology); repeat the update on another computer.
