What's new in 407

The key issue it fixes is with file system degradation over time. Due to some quantum space magic called read disturb, a read only file system will change after you’ve read it enough times. This happens after 4-7 years with Beebo, so this suddenly became a major (and amazingly hard to fix) issue. This fix swaps to a filesystem that can cope with this and automatically heals itself. It also updates basically all the code, fixing many minor and major bugs and fundamentally changing the underlying architecture of Beebo / Hector.

How to update the Poly Effects Beebo

Check your current firmware in the Settings menu: the firmware post on the Poly Effects site says which installer matches your current version. Download the update (several GB) and unzip it on your computer. Copy the unzipped files to the root of a USB flash drive formatted FAT32 (first partition, no subfolders) and remove files from any older update; on macOS use Disk Utility with MS-DOS (FAT) and the Master Boot Record scheme. Start the pedal with the drive inserted: after a few minutes the install starts automatically. When prompted, restart the pedal without removing the drive; a 1-100 counter runs for about half an hour. If the screen is blank when it finishes, restart again with the drive still inserted to complete the panel install. Afterwards, remove and re-add any IR-based modules (cabs/reverbs) in your presets. If the counter stops for more than 10 minutes, follow the Manual Reflash section of the firmware post (flash the microSD card image with balenaEtcher).

Just for reference. For complete and up-to-date instructions, always refer to the manufacturer's official firmware page.
