Before you update the OXI Instruments OXI One MKII

Update with careFirmware 2.2.10 brings the 2.2.6 and 2.2.9 changes: new microtonal scales, multiple sequencers assignable to CV and Gate, and fixes in the MIDI player and chord palette. Caution because its release notes tell you to back up your projects before updating from 0.19.0 or lower, and warn that installed instrument definitions will be cleared.

Check the installed firmware version in CONFIG > SYSTEM > FW & HW.
Back up your projects: in the OXI App Projects tab, download all projects to your computer. You can also copy projects to the microSD card from the Project menu ([SHIFT] + [PERF]).
Take note of your installed instrument definitions. The release notes warn that they will be cleared.
Install the latest OXI App for macOS or Windows from the OXI ONE MKII section of the OXI support page.
Set CONFIG > SYSTEM > USB MODE to USB device mode, connect the OXI One MKII to your computer via USB, and make sure the computer is online.
Open the OXI App and go to the Firmware page. It shows the installed and the latest firmware; click View in the update pop-up to proceed.
Do not disconnect the OXI One MKII while the progress bar is shown on its screen. It reboots when the update is complete, which takes 15 to 60 seconds.

Requirements & compatibility

Updater	The latest OXI App for macOS or Windows, from the OXI support page.
Connection	USB, with the OXI One MKII in USB device mode (CONFIG > SYSTEM > USB MODE) and the computer connected to the internet.
Update from a file	In the OXI App, click the three dots under the ONE image to update the firmware or the Bluetooth driver from a file you downloaded earlier. Each release on OXI's GitHub releases page has a .syx firmware file.
Recovery mode	If an update freezes the unit, hold the power button to force it off, then hold [MUTE] while pressing power to start in update mode and update again from the OXI App.
Without the OXI App	If your computer's OS does not support the OXI App, the manual says SysEx Librarian can be used.
Upgrading from 0.19.0 or lower	The release notes ask you to back up your projects before updating from 0.19.0 or lower. They also say installed instrument definitions will be cleared.

Common problems after updating

OXI One MKII not recognized via USB

Check that no other software is already connected to the OXI One: MIDI is exclusive to the first software that connects to it. For firmware updates, also check that CONFIG > SYSTEM > USB MODE is set to USB device mode.

OXI One MKII froze or is bricked during a firmware update

Keep it connected to the computer running the OXI App, with the computer online. Hold the power button to force it off, then hold [MUTE] while pressing power to start in update mode. Update again in the OXI App using a downloaded firmware file, either an older revision or the latest. If needed, power off and on and repeat.

OXI One MKII firmware update fails on Windows

Update the OXI App to the latest version (the fix for Windows firmware update issues arrived in OXI App 2.0.0, see its release notes).

Instrument definitions missing after updating the OXI One MKII

The firmware release notes warn that installed instrument definitions will be cleared. Load them again from the OXI App: in the OXI App (2.0.0 and later) they are in the device-specific instrument tabs and the Community tab. You can also import definitions from the Instruments folder on the microSD card.
