Upwind – Sailing Tracker (“Upwind”, “the app”) is developed by Vincenzo Risi (“the developer”). Upwind has no accounts, no developer servers, no third-party services, no ads, and no analytics or tracking tools. The developer does not receive, see, or have any way to access your data.

Data the app processes

Location (GPS). Upwind uses the device's location to show live speed and course and, when you start a recording, to save the session track (coordinates, speed, course, timestamps). All processing happens on the device. Background location is used only during an active recording, so the track isn't interrupted when the screen turns off.

Sessions. Recorded sessions (track, distance, average and maximum speed, duration, name) are stored on the device.

iCloud. If the device is signed in to iCloud, sessions are automatically synced to the private iCloud database of your Apple account (CloudKit). That space belongs to you: it is protected by your Apple account, and it is not accessible to the developer or to other users. Its purpose is letting you find your sessions again when you switch iPhones or reinstall the app. Syncing follows the device's iCloud settings, and Apple's handling is described in Apple's privacy policy.

Health (Apple Watch only). On Apple Watch, if you grant permission, recordings are saved as “Sailing” workouts in Apple Health (HealthKit). Health data stays in your Health store, managed by Apple according to your settings; Upwind writes workouts there and does not use them for any other purpose.

Sharing

Sharing a session (.upwind or GPX file, e.g. via AirDrop) happens only when you choose to: you decide what to share and with whom. The file contains the full session track (coordinates, timestamps, speeds) — share it only with people you trust.

Data the app does NOT process

Retention and deletion

Data is kept until you delete it: you can delete individual sessions in the app; when removing the app you can choose to also remove its iCloud data. Health workouts are managed from the Health app.
