With the free v3.0 firmware update, the Soundcraft Ui24R has been enhanced with Cascading and a number of other significant new features.
Cascading enables you to connect two Ui24R systems via Ethernet to expand your mixing capability with a new 32x32 bi-directional audio bus. Add a second Ui24R to double your mic inputs or connect two Ui24R mixers and control two fully independent mixes, such as FOH and monitors, or FOH and streaming mixes.
Features in the free 3.0 fimware update:
Cascading: Double your inputs or double your mixes
Cue Recall: save mix settings as Cues and then quickly and seamlessly recall them
UDP Control Recall: for triggering lighting control snapshots
Lexicon Reverb PreDelay: easily set the time before first surface reflections and simulate desired acoustic environments
More than 25 new supported touch screens
And more, described in the downloadable Ui24R 3.0 Firmware Addendum document
Soundcraft released the Ui24R surfaceless mixer in March of 2017. Since then, three additional free firmware updates have been released. Soundcraft is announcing the fourth major firmware update at the 2018 Winter NAMM show. Highlights of new features include:
Speech AutoMix: This adds 2x user selectable AutoMix groups, which are used in situations where multiple people are speaking on a panel or on a theater stage. When multiple mics are active on stage and the mic count doubles, the noise floor goes up by about +3dB (2x mics = +3dB, 4x mics = 6dB, 8x mics = 9 dB). To counter this, AutoMix prioritizes the most prominent current speaker, while deprioritizing the other active mics. Soundcraft’s implementation provides a “weight” compensation for adjusting for stronger or less prominent voices in the group, as well as a single control for adjusting the speed of response between channels.
Multi-Ducker: With huge expansion in content creation, Soundcraft is adding a new MultiDucker feature for those creating content in a radio or TV broadcast style workflow. MultiDucker enables users to route groups of mic channels to subgroups, and then in the subgroup compressor, assign higher number subgroups to “duck” (side chain trigged compression) from levels on any lower numbered subgroup. As an example, users could route the speaking mic channels to subgroup 1, a musician playing acoustic guitar in the same room to subgroup 5, and USB playback to subgroup 6. When the people on mics are speaking, the music subgroups will now automatically “duck” (compress) their levels, and when the speaking pauses, the music channel levels will return.
Language Localization: This release is the first language localization for a Ui Series mixer. Each HTML5 Ui user may now select Chinese in the Ui local settings, for using the interface in Chinese.
Ui24R 2.0 firmware update is compatible with HTML5 browsers on Windows 7 and 10, Mac, Android, and iOS. (It is not compatible with Ui12 and Ui16.)
New Features:
1/ A shuffle feature has been added to the player. The Shuffle button is available when the Player is in AUTO mode.
2/ Link Aux Master to Master fader. Enable this functionality from the AUX/MTX pop menu "LINK TO MASTER". The AUX/MTX fader will now follow the master fader position.
3/ SubGroup - Exclude from master bus function added. Enable this functionality from the SubGroup channel pop menu "EXCLUDE FROM MASTER". Subgroup signal is intended to be cut from the Master Bus.
4/ Global tap function added. Each delay FX can now select whether to accept updated BPM values from the Slide out Tap Tempo Button or the Meters page Tap Tempo button. If not enabled, each FX can have their own dedicated BPM value set from the FX unit elements Tap button.
5/ Master Isolates functionality fix
6/ VCA groups now allow inclusion of AUX/MTX
7/ Pre/post processing option added for MTX contributions.
8/ Time set from client time. On loading the GUI, the units time is updated using the connected clients local time or manually set on the connected HDMI screen.
9/ Coloring of channels on Tablet version. Channels have the ability to assign collars to the channel label to enhance quick selection and viewing.
10/ Additional HDMI display support.
11/ HDMI scaling selector. “HDMI underscan” On/Off parameter in the settings page.
12/ RTA hold function. A channels RTA can be Held so it can be compared with new RTA information on the screen.
13/ RT share function. When an RTA is held on a channel, it can be viewed in the Master EQ as well which assists with room tuning. “Channel RTA ON Master GEQ” On/Off setting in the settings page.
14/ EQ view in channel strip LED. An EQ overview can be seen on each channel above the fader. “EQ Curve on channel LED” On/Off parameter in the settings page.
