How to update the Boss ES-8

Download the ES-8 System Program zip from the Boss Updates & Drivers page and extract the .mid update files; install UpdSMF (SMF Player) and ES-8 Editor for your computer from the same page. With a MIDI cable, connect the MIDI OUT of a USB-MIDI interface to the ES-8 MIDI IN. Hold [DISPLAY/EXIT] and [RIGHT arrow] while connecting the AC adaptor ('UPd' appears). In UpdSMF set MIDI Out Device to the interface, point Path (Select on Mac) to the folder with the .mid files, click Scan SMF (Windows only) and Send. When 'ok' appears, disconnect the AC adaptor. Never power off during the update. When coming from an older system, the update page also asks you to save your settings with the ES-8 Editor Librarian, run a Factory Reset and import them back: follow those steps there.
